For information on how to apply for the FS Exam see <a href=\"https:\/\/ncees.org\/surveying\/#california\">NCEES surveying<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The FS exam is a computer-based test (CBT). It is closed book with an electronic reference.<\/li><li> Examinees have 6 hours to complete the exam, which contains 110 questions. <ul><li>The 6-hour time also includes a tutorial and an optional scheduled break.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An important start to your exam preparation is to review the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ncees.org\/exams\/exam-preparation-materials\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ncees.org\/exams\/exam-preparation-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\">NCEES exam preparation Materials<\/a> web page. It is a good idea to consider purchasing their exam prep material for the FS exam. This is really just the start of preparation for the exam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is what NCEES says about that FS exam you are preparing for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"font-style:italic;font-weight:500\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Fundamentals of Surveying (FS)&nbsp;exam is generally your first step in the process to becoming a professional licensed surveyor (P.S.). It is designed for recent graduates and students who are close to finishing an undergraduate surveying degree from an ABET accredited program. The FS exam is a computer-based exam administered year-round in testing windows at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ncees.org\/exams\/test-center-locations\/\">NCEES-approved Pearson VUE test centers<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FS exam is a 110-question test. You can be the judge of what may help you study for the exam. One word of caution, on some of those books with exam questions, is that sometimes the solutions are not correct, so don&#8217;t be afraid to ask someone to check the answers.<\/p>\n\n\n<div some great, if not dry, discussions on  survey topics important for the exam and for you as a professional<ul><li>I did not find the workbook on the Caltrans site, but a quick search will bring up We are working at getting a better handle on the best way to take the exam.
